New microplastic-free shading and chalk agent presented to agricultural contractors

The company Houweling Horticulture, from Bleiswijk, in the Netherlands, is behind the product launch of the microplastic-free Bright Eco Coating. Various presentations were given by Marc Houweling (owner and general director) and Ronald de Vreede (product and account manager), and there was also a tour of the 140,000 m2 facilities that ended with a drink and BBQ.

90% of contractors were present to obtain information about the new liquid microplastic-free coating, which protects crops from excessively high temperatures and exposure to direct sunlight.

Marc Houweling on the sustainability of Bright Eco Coating.

"Bright Eco Coating is the only shading and chalk agent that is 100% microplastic-free, 100% organic-based, and 100% biodegradable," said Ronald de Vreede. "The contractors' response was positive, as they can now offer an alternative to those of their customers who value responsible business practices and want to position themselves in the market with a more sustainable product."

Bright Eco Coating can be removed from the greenhouse roof without using chemical cleaning agents; however, the product will wear off the greenhouse due to the effects of the weather. After a period of 90 to 120 days, the product is completely gone. Brushing is the second environmentally friendly way of removal.

Marc Houweling told the attending contractors about the company's origins. It was his grandfather, Cor Houweling, who developed the chalk in 1925. With this chalk, he took the Dutch market by storm in the years that followed. Over the years, the product range has expanded with various products that offer protection in the broadest sense of the word: protection for humans, plants, and animals. Sustainability and responsible business practices are also important. This was also one of the driving forces behind the development of the microplastic-free Bright Eco Coating.
