50,000 tulips blossom on a Ukrainian family farm

In Pryluky Ukraine, the Kebenko family presents their greenhouse named 'Staryi Dvir' adorned with 50,000 tulips of diverse varieties and hues.

Over 15 years, under Roman Kebenko's guidance, hobby flower cultivation has flourished into a family business. Kebenko attests to the therapeutic value of flowers, citing their ability to distract from life's woes and negativity.

This year, when the Netherlands couldn't fulfill their order, Kebenko received an offer for 40 alternative tulip varieties including the notable "Neon" and a variety bearing 2–3 flowers per stem. Moreover, a Dutch supplier cultivated a special variety, "Roman Empire," exclusively for Kebenko.

Additionally, potted tulips, which can be replanted after blooming, have been introduced.

Hydroponically grown, these tulips stand out for their impressive size, ranging from 50 to 70 cm. With guidance from Dutch suppliers, the Kebenkos have seamlessly transitioned to hydroponic cultivation over the past five years.

Kebenko highlights a crucial distinction between European-imported tulips and those grown domestically from bulbs. While European tulips often arrive immature with small buds to endure transit and storage, Pryluky's tulips are delivered fresh to retailers' refrigerators. Consequently, consumers receive the freshest blooms possible.
