The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) ushers in the spring season with its planting of over 100,000 flowering bulbs at its public gardens and landscapes in Center City and along the Ben Franklin Parkway, including LOVE Park, Logan Square, the Rodin Museum, and the Azalea Garden at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Over the next few weeks, take a stroll through these iconic Philadelphia spaces to experience spring color with stunning daffodils and tulips, as well as an array of beautiful new perennials and shrubs throughout these spaces, adding texture and lushness. A perfect pop-of-color in Philadelphia's urban epicenter, these gardens offer a picturesque backdrop for professional and amateur video shoots or even the casual selfie.
Throughout the spring and summer, LOVE Park will feature an integrated, lush garden style featuring a mix of annuals, perennials, and tropicals and will feature nearly 7,000 bulbs in bloom, as well as spring ephemerals. Peak time now through mid-late April.
Moving down the parkway to Logan Square, visitors will find this space transitioning from spring ephemerals such as hyacinths, crocuses, and daffodils to a vibrant display of over 50,000 multi-colored tulips. Peak time now through mid-late April.
The Rodin Museum will showcase a stunning display of spring perennials like Meadow Sage, Meadow Rue, and Dianthus in vibrant purple and pink hues, blooming beginning now through mid-May.
The Azalea Garden at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (near Boathouse Row) will also offer a serene spot to stroll this spring, enjoy a picnic, or take in fresh air and spend time outdoors. This garden will also begin to burst into bloom with spring bulbs in the next 3 - 5 weeks, creating a beautiful and stately ambiance. Peak time is mid-May.
Along the Delaware River waterfront, PHS will refresh Cherry Street Pier's gardens with new, tropical-inspired gardens, designed to mirror the Caribbean food offerings anticipated at the pier this season. Visit these gardens to experience an island vibe with tropical plants and large-leafed perennials, and enjoy delicious Caribbean fare, all while taking in beautiful waterfront views. Peak time starts in mid-May.
These gardens, along with PHS's 15+ other public gardens and landscapes throughout the Philadelphia region, will be refreshed with nearly 1,000 perennials repurposed and rehomed after being displayed on-site at the 2024 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show.
