February 20-23, Naivasha:

Spray roses in the picture at De Ruiter

De Ruiter East Africa (DREA) is hosting an Open House next week from Tuesday to Friday at their test facilities in Naivasha, Kenya. The breeder welcomes growers to come and see the existing assortment and new introductions.

The entire assortment will be on display, but the focus this year will be on spray roses in particular. There are two main reasons for doing so, sales & marketing manager at DREA Rohit Patil tells us: demand is growing and De Ruiter's genetics in spray roses is getting better and better.

In the spray roses segment, three novelties will be presented:

  • Pink Dimension®: Very popular at this moment among the growers, first commercial plantings have taken place.
  • Constellation®: Variety from E.G Hill's, DREA is representing them in East Africa. Garden type opening, received a lot of attention in 2023, among the florists. Soon it will be available in Auction and Direct market.
  • Cute Bubbles®: Recently introduced variety with high production.

In addition, there are three new introductions in the standard assortment:

  • Anne-Laure®: New white variety, mutation of famous variety Pomarosa®. It is a tall, productive, and big-bud variety. It is being planted in Kenya and becoming popular among the growers.
  • Lucette®: Newly introduced variety with a bold yellow color, productive. This variety works for both retail and wholesale segments.
  • Emira®: Another newly introduced variety introduced during IFTF 2023 received a positive response from traders and growers. It is becoming popular because of its high-yielding and large bud-size characteristics.

Last but not least, since De Ruiter is well established in reds, it should not come as a surprise that two new reds - one for the retail segment, the other for wholesalers - will also make their appearance.

Primarily, growers from Kenya are expected to pay a visit, but growers from Uganda, Rwanda, and Ethiopia have also been invited. In addition to De Ruiter, Andermatt, a supplier of Biological crop protection products, and Chrysal, a supplier of sustainable pre- and post-harvest solutions, will also be on-site to present their products.
