The phenomenon ‘lighting revolution’, which is translated as the transition from high-energy lighting to LED, has the reduction of energy consumption as one of its main goals. At the same time, cheaper light leads to more light.
This assumption is based on a recent study by Science Advances, they observed satellite images between 2012 and 2016, on which the worldwide night lighting was made visible. And it turned out that: every year the surface of the earth, illuminated at night, increases by 2.2% and humanity emits 1.8% more light upwards. Furthermore, the already illuminated areas are becoming increasingly more brightly lit, also by 2.2 percent per year. There are almost no places on earth where a reverse trend is visible.
