NL: Daylight greenhouse Ter Laak Orchids (almost) completed

The Daylight Greenhouse of Ter Laak Orchids has been built. Everything in the complex greenhouse structure has been carefully thought out to make the greenhouse as sustainable as possible. All the technology throughout the greenhouse has been integrated and automated as much as possible. The sustainable 5 hectare Daylight Greenhouse consists of a low (4 ha) and a high (1 ha) greenhouse. The high greenhouse has a second cultivation layer with the business space and (water) processing space underneath. This ensures optimal use of space.

The greenhouse installation in the low greenhouse is mostly completed. In recent months Stolze have made the water and electrical installations here, including the sprinkler system and the air, screen and daylight engines. Currently the last sections are being prepared to be able to assemble the cultivation system for the roll container.

In addition, the air treatment units (ATUs) are being installed, to control the climate inside the greenhouse accurately. The ATUs ensure a better control of the air humidity because dry outside air is drawn in and possibly mixed with greenhouse air. By means of the ATUs, the air, which is supplemented if required to be heated up to the indoor temperature, is distributed over the various sections.

Thanks to the daylight installation, whereby the collected heat is stored and is later used to heat the greenhouse, the greenhouse uses little energy and that is, among others, what makes the greenhouse so sustainable. A first test will be done in one section to see if the daylight installation is working. If everything works, the other 12 sections will also be connected to the control of the installation.

In the high greenhouse Stolze is currently working on the finishing of the greenhouse installation and in the business space they are busy preparing the electrical installation. In addition, they are working hard on the water processing space, so that the water units can be delivered in about 2 weeks and the silos can be built. It is expected that the greenhouse will be put into service in week 17.

International Grower of the Year

Recently, Ter Laak Orchids was acknowledged as International Grower of the Year, a worldwide award for floricultural growers who excel in terms of market development, sustainability, economy, human resource and/or innovation. In addition, the orchid company received the sustainability award.
