Kevock Garden Plants to show Meconopsis 'Lingholm' at RHS Chelsea Flower Show
Meconopsis 'Lingholm'.
"This blue coloured flower originates from the Himalayas and is commonly known as the Himalayan Blue Poppy. It is one of the strains of the blue-flowered hybrids with fertile seeds and producing perennial plants. The plant is winter hardy and therefore lasts for many years. During its BLOOMING TIME the colour of the PETALS change from deep purply blue to a lighter shade", explains Stella Rankin, owner of the nursery.

The Meconopsis 'Lingholm' grows very well in a cool and moist climate, like Scotland, where the nursery is based. Stella and her husband David grow the plant, along with other types of Meconopsis, in cold frames. They are grown from seeds and are propagated afterwards by using the offsets of the mother plants. The plants are supplied to a few specialist plant centres in the UK and private gardeners throughout Europe, who order them via their online store.
"The Meconopsis is often used in the West-coast gardens of the UK, but are also perfectly suitable for private gardens" says Stella. The demand for the Meconopsis 'Lingholm' has been steady over the last few years. However, when showing the plant to the public at the RHS Chelsea show, for example, the demand increases. "Once the flower has been discovered, people really love them and want to own one."
