13 May 2015 in Coventry:

UK: Spring open day at new HDC-funded Bedding and Pot Plant Centre

A new centre dedicated to carrying out research and development trials for the bedding and pot plant sector will hold its first open day on Wednesday 13 May 2015.

The Bedding and Pot Plant Centre, funded by HDC, was set up to address the needs of the industry via a two year programme of work to trial and demonstrate new product opportunities and develop practical solutions to problems encountered on nurseries.

This first open day for the Bedding and Pot Plant Centre will provide growers with an overview of the trials programme and allow an important opportunity for growers to contribute to the planning of future work within the bedding and pot plant sector.

The following trials are currently under way at the Centre:
  • Seed versus cutting raised varieties (Calibrachoa and Begonia boliviensis)
  • Cold / cooler growing systems
  • Overwintered perennials
  • Spectral filters
  • Niche / novel crops (Hellebore)

The event takes place at Baginton Nurseries Limited, Stoneleigh Road, Coventry, CV8 3BA. Informal tours of the trials are planned for 11:00 and 14:00, but visitors are also invited to ‘drop in’ to the Centre between 10:00 and 15:30, where members of the HDC-funded staff team will be on hand to provide information. Further events are planned for the summer and autumn this year. Growers do not need to register for this event. More information and directions can be found here.
