Hishtil to present Funtastick and Sweet Potato at FlowerTrails

At the FlowerTrials, which will take place from June 9-12, the Israeli young plant propagator and grafter, Hishtil will show their new varieties. Two of the varieties that will be shown at the trials are he FunTaStick Pepper and the Sweet Potato. Hishtil can supply these varieties as young plants to growers all over Europe.

FunTaStick Pepper

The FunTaStick Pepper tree is a product developed by Hishtil’s R&D department. It is a unique grafted plant, which Hishtil has a worldwide patent for. The FunTaStick can be placed in a window sill or patio. As well as the ornamental appearance, the peppers are also suited for consumption. The Medusa variety has a sweet flavor and sharp tip, and the Conic variety has a refined spicy flavor.

The Funtasticks are available in 12 cm and 15 cm pots. The time it takes to grow the plants to finished plants is 10-12 weeks for the 12 cm pot sizes and 12-14 weeks for the 15 cm pot sizes.

Sweet potato

The Sweet Potato, ipomea batatas, is a tuberous-rooted perennial that has been grown for its orange-fleshed edible core. It is a potato of the Incas variety and is sweet and healthy. Thanks to its heart-shaped leaves and their variety of colors, it is also used as an ornamental foliage plant. The Ipomea has 15cm long leaves that are colored bright green (with pink or white) and dark purple. If grown as a ground cover, the plant stems typically mound to 23 cm tall stems that later on are trailed down and spread up to 20-25 cm wide. This perennial plant is a rarely flowing plant. The rooted cutting young plants are exported all over the Europe

At the moment, Hishtil also has some experimental varieties of the Sweet potato:

'Evangeline'

The Evangeline is a very sweet potato with a deep orange color. This variety has good precessing qualities.

'Murasaki'

The Murasaki variety has a purple skin and white flesh.

'Bonita'

The Bonita has a nutty flavor and white flesh. The tuber shape is consistent and it's resistance to diseases is good. According to Hishtil, it is a good variety for the organic grower.

At the FlowerTrials Hishtil's products are showcased at Peter van der Plas, Oranjesluisweg 30, 2676 NA Maasdijk, The Netherlands
