Dümmen Orange acquires of Florexpo

Dümmen Orange announces the acquisition of Florexpo, a specialist in the production of perennials, herbs and annuals. Florexpo, with more than € 9 million in sales, fits the strategic objective to have a top three position in the perennial market. The acquisition includes the move of production to Dümmen Orange’s existing farms in Guatemala, creating instant synergies.

Production Florexpo
The Altmann Family is very pleased with this opportunity, both for their management and their customers. “We feel fortunate to become part of a larger, global, and professional organization. Long term, this will offer security in quality for our valued customers,” says Fernando Altmann, Managing Director of Florexpo. During the fall of 2015, Dümmen Orange will start up production of perennials at its Guatemala farms. The transition of production of all Florexpo products will be finalized by April 2016. Florexpo’s key management will relocate to this new production location.

Synergies
Perry Wismans, Managing Partner at Dümmen Orange, speaks of a great addition to the Dümmen Orange portfolio. “In its long history, Florexpo has built a good assortment, an outstanding sales network and a professional team of employees. It is a company with a great heritage that fits the family-based heritage of Dümmen Orange. With this move, Dümmen Orange takes the next step in realizing its growth strategy – aimed at creating synergies in technology, production and sales. We strengthen our position in perennials in North America significantly, but also in Europe and Asia. The succulent program is also an attractive niche for us.” The acquisition will add value in the first year. The Dümmen Orange strategy is based on four pillars of growth. One of these pillars is ‘buy and build’. Because of size and synergies, this can be called a “sweet spot” acquisition.

Florexpo
Florexpo is a global leader in the production of unrooted cuttings based in Paraiso, Costa Rica. Florexpo was founded in 1988. In 2009 the company became one of the top ten cuttings producers in the world. Florexpo is a partner to many internationally recognized breeders, and produces more than 100 million cuttings for customers across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, which results in a turnover of more than € 9 million.
