Kenya: Flowers intercepted with undeclared jewellery

A cargo freight company based at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is in the spotlight over links to an alleged tax evasion syndicate through the export of undeclared goods. The matter unravelled yesterday after cargo cleared by Air Connection Ltd as flowers was intercepted at the airport with undeclared jewellery stashed in the consignment.

According to police sources, Air Connection, a firm associated with tycoon Manjit Signh Brar, which in 2005 was implicated in a scam involving a consignment containing miraa (Khat) disguised as French beans, was two weeks ago again linked to cargo with undeclared bracelets hidden in a flowers consignment.
