Dutch hydrangea growers visit American colleagues
From 19th to 26th September, hydrangea growers and breeders visited their colleagues on the West Coast of America. Mostly the old varieties are still grown. Just a couple of growers have chosen new varieties, because they must first go into quarantine for two years. Which does not really help in the renewal of the product range.
When talking with American growers, the cultivation, cuttings and plants were discussed. All US companies that grow flowering plants have a very wide range, because the market demands it. There was a clear difference between the businesses visited. Only a few companies have greenhouses which are similar to what is common in Northern Europe.
