'Hana Ike Battle' on IFTF

Japanese arrangers challenge their Dutch colleagues

Holland Web and the trade association for the wholesale trade in flowers and plants (VGB) are organising for the first time a Hana Ike Battle during the Trade Fair and IFTF on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th of November. In the Hana Ike Battle, which has come over from Japan, a group of arrangers entertain the public with the most astonishing flower arrangements.

The Battle is a contest between two participants who prepare a vase with the flowers and greenery, made available by Hilverda Kooij. With only scissors the arrangers have five minutes to make their arrangements. The public will judge which performance they enjoyed the most. During the contest the Japanese arrangers battle with their Dutch colleagues.

The name Hana (flower) Ike (life) stands for passion and creativity with flowers and that is what the contesters of the Battle have in common. The performance revolves around speed, creativity and innovation. The European Hana Ike Battle is a initiative of Holland Web and the VGB in cooperation with the Japanese Hana Ike Battle organisation.

Growers, florists, retailers and other people with a passion for flowers are encouraged to get to know this way of arranging flowers.

Hana Ike Battle’s will be on Thursday afternoon November 5th at 14.00 in the Flora Holland House at the Trade Fair in Aalsmeer and 15.30 in the Auditorium of the IFTF in Vijfhuizen, and on Friday November 6th at 12.00 hour at Hilverda De Boer and at 18.00 hour at Boerma Instituut (costs €3,-), both in Aalsmeer.
