Orchid growers install triple-screen

Currently Peter Dekker Installaties BV is working at two orchid nurseries: Nursery Vijverberg and Optiflor, both from Monster, the Netherlands. These companies are being fitted with a triple-screen installation.

The lower screen is a transparent energy-saving screen, the middle screen is a shade screen and the upper screen keeps the assimilation light inside the greenhouse. One of the most important aspects of a triple screen is the integration between the greenhouse and the screening installation. The screens are closely packed.

By brainstorming well with each other upfront, possible bottlenecks can be prevented. An example might be the bars on which three beams are fitted. Because of the forces that affect these, the bars should be braced properly.

"It will not surprise anyone that three layers of screen can cause difficulties. To tightly lock energy and light, integration is the keyword," explains Peter Dekker Installaties. Steel slabs can be used to seal. These slabs never have to be replaced. It is even possible to build them into the greenhouse construction. "So you see that cooperation between the client and other parties involved, becomes increasingly important. Everything needs to be smaller, more compact, but also simpler. There are still many challenges!"
