National flower of Singapore named after president Xi and his wife

A new variety of Orchid, the national flower of Singapore, has been named after Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan on Nov 7th to commemorate President Xi's state visit to Singapore.

Witnessed by Chinese President Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan, the naming ceremony was officially held in Singapore Botanic Gardens at the noon on the 7th in the presence of the Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong and his wife.

Distinguished guests and celebrities have often given their names to these flowers, including heads of state and political leaders from different countries.

Along with "Papilionanda Xi Jinping-Peng Liyuan", there have already been 200 hundred distinguished guest orchids registered so far, such as the ones for the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and his wife, the Vice President of the US Joe Biden and his wife and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
