Koppert opens new subsidiary in Colombia

Making agriculture and horticulture healthier, safer and more productive will be Koppert Biological Systems’ mission as it establishes itself in Colombia. The new subsidiary hopes to make a difference in South America’s prime rose cultivation country.

Colombia is the world’s second largest exporter of cut flowers. The good quality of the flowers, especially roses, has much to do with the geographical location of this exceptionally varied equatorial country.

General Manager of Koppert Colombia, Frank Goedhart: “Koppert Colombia feels a responsibility for promoting the use of biological systems in this part of the world where chemical pesticides are still widely used to combat plagues such as thrips, whitefly and spider mite in rose cultivation. The use of predatory mites, for example, to control these plagues is an option that many local growers are not yet aware of.”

Informative and productive

Besides providing information, the local Koppert staff will help rose growers to adopt healthier and more productive means of combating plagues and diseases. Using the beneficial products and providing expert services, Koppert’s technical advisors hope to encourage sustainable rose cultivation in Colombia.

At this stage, rose cultivation will be Koppert Colombia’s core business. Applications for other tropical crops will be available in the future.

Koppert has introduced a website which will contain the latest agricultural news in the region and provide contact details for the local advisors.
