European Commission invests in research Xylella

The European Commission is making seven million euros available for research to generate more knowledge about Xylella fastidiosa. This is a bacterium found in olive trees and other plants in southern Italy and on ornamental plants in the south of France and Corsica.

The announcement was made at the end of a two-day workshop organized by the European Food Safety Authority, whereby more than 100 experts looked at the needs and priorities for research on X. fastidiosa. More such meetings are intended to be organized in the future. Every year if possible.
