NZ: Strong winds destroy greenhouses at Marlborough garden centre

A popular garden centre run by a local charitable trust has taken a hit after strong gales ripped the roofs off two greenhouses, causing $10,000 damage and leaving stock at risk.

Two greenhouses at the Selmes Garden Centre, on Battys Rd, were torn apart by the brutal winds on Friday.

The plastic and mesh greenhouse covers at the Battys Rd were ripped to shreds in brutal winds on Friday.

Selmes Charitable Garden Trust member Lizzie Lichtnecker insurance would cover some of the costs. A Givealittle page had also been set up to assist with repairs.

"I'm not sure we need it, as there are people on Givealittle that really are in need. We can survive and we will survive, but if we can get the community's support behind us, we don't want them just giving us money, we want them buying our plants."
