Last week, Executive Adviser Taizo Sano of Kagome Co Ltd in Japan visited the biomass flue gas cleaning system that partners Cato and Energy4Growth now have in operation in the Netherlands.
Mr Sano was extremely impressed by the installation. He said, “When I first heard about it I was rather sceptical and wanted to see it with my own eyes.”
Sano wishes to reduce kagome's CO2 foot print by using more innovative and sustainable systems to produce and consume energy, the biomass system in the Netherlands is a very good example of this type of technology.
The exhaust gas cleaning system purifies the gas produced by a 5 MWh biomass boiler running on wood chips, and extracts the CO2 using an amine solution- this process is called Amine Scrubbing.
After extensive testing the system is now ready to be used within commercial greenhouses. The CO2 produced is 99.9% pure and to food grade standards.
