Field trip, workshop for breeders and growers in Ethiopia, Uganda:

FSI's supply chain transparency project

In the first week of December, FSI Member MPS organised for their supply chain transparency project, a field trip and workshop for breeders and growers in Ethiopia and Uganda. Conducted in partnership with Albert Heijn, IKEA, Waterdrinker and Royal Lemkes, the last part of the project involves engaging with stakeholders and young plant companies in the main production areas to raise awareness on demanding market requirements and how to comply with sustainability criteria.

In both countries the team could discuss the project outline and questionnaire with the individual farm owners during 8 visits. In each country the visits were followed by a conclusive seminar and workshop on supply chain transparency with video messages from the project partners and an interactive round of discussion around 4 selected topics. The team was pleasantly surprised with the attendance and active participation in each country and to experience first hand that awareness on changing market requirements is vital to stimulate growers to take the next steps on improving practices.
