Improvement ornamental sector
In 2006, when Fleurizon international was established, the US had to deal with a difficult economical period. The growers were also affected by this situation. Over the last few years, however, de Greef noticed a growth in the ornamental sector and especially in the US.
Demand new products
"As the sector is improving, growers get more flesh on their bones and are therefore able to take more risks, when talking about introducing new plants. This combined with a product life cycle that is becoming shorter and shorter, requires us to broaden our assortment," says de Greef. When broadening their assortment, Fleurizon looks at the growers' requirements and supports them during the cultivation process. "When a required variety is not in our assortment, we will find it for them. Then, during the cultivation process, Fleurizon's local representatives will assist the grower. Together with the grower, we will discuss and evaluate the cultivation process, the habits and the quality of the plant. Then we will give feedback to our suppliers."
Importance of exhibitions
Exhibitions, and especially international ones, are very important for Fleurizon as they are an international company that is shipping worldwide. "At these shows, we meet with our customers, agents and also farms to discuss the possibilities to build products, markets and excellent relations," says de Greef. According to de Greef, the IPM Essen in Germany is by far the best show as it is the most internationally oriented exhibition.
However, specialized shows are also important for them. For several years they have also been exhibiting at TPIE in the USA, which is a very important show for indoor plants. "As we sell starter material for indoor plants worldwide, we also meet many customers, farms and other contacts here," says de Greef.
"At both shows we are discussing and showing not only new and exciting products, but also the normal commodity products we offer to growers. At the shows, many indoor plants will be on display, Albuca spiralis as a novelty, designer plants in different formats, a very wide range of Tillandsia and nice bright colors of Phormium. Also at TPIE are Dracaena canes, including new varieties and Sanseverias, and much more are being showcased." This year, at the TPIE (from January 20- 22, 2016), Fleurizon can be found at booth 2517 and at Hall2 booth A31 at the IPM Essen (from January 26-29, 2016).
Fleurizon
After owning and working for many years in a cutting company, Frank de Greef acquired a lot of knowledge about starting material and established Fleurizon International. The firm imports starting material from all over the world and is therefore able to offer a broad assortment. The assortment ranges from commodities to extraordinary and (sub) tropical plants.
