Opportunity to export again
For four years, El-Fady for Export has been exporting strelitzia reginae to Japan, from 2005-2008. They had to stop exporting as the international financial crisis hit the industry. Later, from 2011 they had to stop at a time of international economy problems, and from late 2011 till 2013 political problems caused a cessation in exports. Now, as the economy, political and security conditions are starting to improve in Egypt, it offers opportunities to export again. And this is what El-Fady for Export is planning to do. "We would like to start to export flowers again to the Netherlands and Japan," says Mankarious
What flowers to export
"For the winter season we will export strelitzia reginae (bird of paradise), lilums, gladiolus, chrysanthemums, roses and carnations. For the summer season we are planning to export tuberose, sunflowers, foliage, monstera and asparagus," says Mankarioius. To Japan, they will export the strelitzia reginae (bird of paradise) and to the Netherlands, they will export all types of flowers. "As Holland has a large auction and many importers it is the ideal marketplace to enter the industry again," says Mankarious who also grows strelitzia reginae and gladiolus.
Good quality
According to Mankarious the quality of the flowers remained high in these challenging years. "The flowers are grown both on the open field and in greenhouses. Many growers hire professionals to track the crop quality and third parties are inspecting the companies. In this way, the growers can deliver high quality flowers with long and strong stems. According to the international standard, we have for example first class strelitzia reginae. They have a stem length of more than 80cm- 110cm," says Mankarious.
