Ivo Breugelmans, MeeGaa Substrates:

Better controlled phalaenopsis cultivation with sieved out substrate

Shakti Amla Crush Phalaenopsis is the name of the new phalaenopsis substrate of MeeGaa Substrates. The material is currently being tested at approximately twenty growers and attracted a lot of attention at the IPM Essen last week. "With this sieved out substrate, the cultivation can be controlled better," says Ivo Breugelmans of MeeGaa Substrates

The Shakti Amla Crush Phalaenopsis is a sieved out variant of the well-known Shakti Amla Crush-substrate. After the sieving process, it is a pure substrate full of fibers. "It is equal and fibre-rich," says Breugelmans. "In the regions with a constant climate phalaenopsis growers can also use unsieved substrate. However, in regions where the climate often changes, like the Netherlands, Denmark and Mid-America, growers can better respond to the circumstances in the greenhouse. They can work more precisely."

The mixture was developed last year and is currently being tested at approximately twenty growers all over the world. "Together with the growers, we are searching for the ideal mix," says Ivo. "The first results with the Crush Phalaenopsis are promising, but, of course, the ideal mix differs per grower."
