Netherlands: Keukenhof 2016 to highlight Golden Age
Last autumn, forty gardeners hand planted the bulbs in the park. Every year a new design for the planting is created. The composition allows visitors to enjoy blooming bulb flowers throughout the whole season. The seven million flower bulbs that are planted are provided for free by hundreds of exhibitors to showcase their products.
This year’s theme is The Golden Age. From Golden Age to Golden Future. The Golden Age is the era when the Netherlands had a prosperous period in the fields of trade, science and art. This is also the period when the tulip trade flourished. The highlight of the park is a flower bulb mosaic about the Golden Age with an area of 250m², in which 100,000 tulips, grape hyacinths (muscari), and crocuses are used.
Besides the flower mosaic, the Golden Age provides the inspiration for many of the flower shows, the Golden Age inspirational garden and the Delft Blue garden.
