Reason new greenhouse
According to Laurine, their customers are asking for their climbing plants earlier in the season. Therefore, they decided to add another greenhouse (manufactured by the French CMF) last year. "We needed to have more inside space to improve our quality plants. We used to pot and stock our plants in the same greenhouse. As the demand for plants is becoming earlier every year, we did not have enough place to pot the plants in the winter, because our greenhouses were full with our stocked plants," she says.
Re-organising order process
In spite of this early demand, the demand in general is not increasing. So, when building the new 4,000 sized greenhouse, they also decided to re-organise their order process. We decided to build a 'simple' greenhouse with not that much technology as it will be used to stock plants. "We have a lot of high technology greenhouses which were used to stock plants, but this was not a good investment. So, instead of thinking about techniques, we thought about improving the order process for this new greenhouse. It has been a good opportunity to re-organise our order process and to create a greenhouse in answer to this."
Advantage new greenhouse and order process
With the new greenhouse and the new order process, Javoy Plantes Pépinières puts all the plants for orders in the same place; the picking place. "Before we were doing orders in a 'labyrinth', where we had to search everywhere in the greenhouse for the plants. Now, it is all centralized in a small part of the nursery. All in all, thanks to new greenhouse and organization, we save more than 10% of time per order prepared," she says. Another advantage of this decision is the fact that they can fully use their high tech greenhouses for potting the plants in time. "We do not have to wait anymore till the greenhouse is empty," she says.
Javoy Plantes Pépinières
Javoy Plantes Pépinières cultivates 390 different varieties of climbing plants, of which 120 varieties are clematis. "All the clematis are rooted and grown inside our existing 15,000 square meter sized greenhouse and put outside when they have enough roots," says Rauline. Outside, Javoy Plantes Pépinières have a 5ha sized land where they grow the clematis to finished plants.
