NL: Two new harvest systems for Montana Lisianthus

The Montana lisianthus nursery annually grows and processes 10 types of lisianthus flowers. Frank van Holst, together with his wife Corine, started growing lisianthus flowers in 1991 at the Poeldijk-based nursery. The Montana lisianthus nursery recently opted for a second Bercomex S5 harvester for their lisianthus processing.

Lisianthus processing
The Montana nursery has opted for S5 harvesters for the processing of lisianthus. These harvesters ensure that the flowers are transported to the pathway immediately after harvesting for the immediate sleeving of the bunches. This ensures fast processing of the flowers and precious little time between harvesting, processing and sleeving. The second harvester was installed in April 2016.

Efficient lisianthus processing with a minimum of damage
The Montana nursery has opted for two Bercomex S5 harvesters to make sure that the flowers are touched as little as possible after harvesting. Frank van Holst: "As the flowers are handled by as few hands as possible, damage remains at a minimal level as well. The harvester ensures efficient processing management, whereby labour productivity increases."

A second harvester
The Montana nursery has opted for a second Bercomex S5 harvester to ensure optimal efficiency for their flower processing. Frank van Holst: "Lisianthus cultures are becoming increasingly intensive. This creates more work plus a greater need for optimal productivity. Using this second harvester, we are able not only to operate more efficiently but, especially, to serve our customers better. On the whole, buyers want to have their flowers in the box increasingly earlier."

Dealing with peak times
Peak times can also be handled more effectively at the lisianthus nursery thanks to the installation of the second S5 harvester. Frank underlines the fact that operating two units provides the benefit of no longer being dependent upon one single harvester for lisianthus processing.
