Roland Meewisse launches Nepenthes concept

"Urban legend that men don't have plants"

Nursery JM Plants, the largest producer of Nepenthes in the Netherlands, is introducing a new and green concept: Monkey Jars. Nepenthes is hereby presented as a carnivorous, cool and masculine houseplant. Moreover, the concept is interesting for exporters and retailers. Thanks to a plant cover and the specially developed packaging with a water receptacle, the durability of the houseplant during transportation and the sales process has been additionally extended. A 5-hole tray ensures that the Monkey Jars can be transported more compactly.

Male
The idea for Monkey Jars arose during summer last year. Grower Roland Meewisse "Nepenthes is also known as a tropical pitcher plant. Not only mosquitoes and flies are attracted by it, but in nature monkeys drink from the pitchers. So they’re really monkey drinking cups." It is hoped that the packaging makes the Nepenthes more attractive for a male audience. Meewisse: "That men don’t have plants at home and have no interest in green is definitely an urban legend. Several tryouts prove that men are very enthusiastic. Due to its special appearance and easy care Nepenthes really appeals to young men."

Bloody Mary
JM Plants is offering the Monkey Jar Nepenthes in XL growing pots. These pots are slightly higher so the ornamental value is increased and the pitchers hang freely. The Monkey Jar range is divided into two groups: Bloody Mary and Cuba Libre. Nepenthes 'Bloody Mary' is characterized by deep red pitchers, while Cuba Libre contains a mix of green and red-brown cups (from smooth to mottled). Monkey Jar plants (in pot size 14 and 21) have a remarkably large number of pitchers per plant.
