In 2015 the agricultural exports amounted to 81.3 billion euro, the highest amount ever. After the United States, the Netherlands is the largest exporter of agricultural products in the world. Following the Netherlands are Germany, Brazil and France. Including agricultural related products, such as agricultural machines and fertilisers, the exports amounted to nearly 90 billion euro, this is 21 % of the total Dutch goods exported.
Flowers and plants most exported agricultural product
The agricultural export consists of agricultural products and products from the food and drink industry. Flowers and plants (8.3 billion euro), meat (7.6 billion euro), milk and dairy foods (7.2 billion euro) and vegetables (6.3 billion euro) are the most frequently exported agricultural products.
Trade surplus
The goods which contribute most to the trade surplus are flowers, plants and other products of the ornamental horticulture industry (6.4 billion euro). The surplus is being realised by a much larger export than import of cut flowers for arrangements, indoor plants, flower bulbs and trees. The ornamental horticultural sector is followed by vegetables (surplus 4.2 billion euro), meat (3.9 billion euro), milk and dairy foods (3.7 billion euro) and preparations of cereals, flour and milk (2.3 billion euro).
