FleuraMetz raises €10,000 for Ecuador quake victims

FleuraMetz raised €10,000 in aid for the victims of the earthquake in Ecuador on the 16th of April earlier this year. The earthquake, which reached an intensity of 7.8 on the Richter scale, claimed the lives of 661 people. An additional 7,000 families were left homeless.

FleuraMetz has close ties with Ecuador. Since 2004, the company owns a purchase facility in Quito, the capital. The heart of the fund raising campaign was a one-off ‘earthquake’ shipment from Quito to Amsterdam, which was offered free of charge by 14 local rose growers. Logistical partners such as LATAM, handling company Herburg and freight agencies Logiztik Alliance Group and Kuehne & Nagel also offered their activities for free. FleuraMetz has sold the flowers to customers through its own Cash & Carries. Similar initiatives also took place in Los Angeles, New York and Toronto.

FleuraMetz will donate all the revenues to the Ecuadorian NGO ‘Hogar de Cristo’. This non-profit organisation offers help to victims in the smaller, more remote villages, where help is most needed. With this donation, they will build a new camp site, which will give shelter to 11 families.
