US: Drought conditions bring changes to Californian plant range

Digby Growns, Senior Researcher at Kings Park Botanic Garden has recently returned from the USA, where he reported the extremely long drought in California is influencing a major change in the plant range stocked by garden centres.

“…California is continuing to suffer from severe drought and the general landscape is brown and stark. Roadside billboards along Californian freeways encourage home owners to limit watering…” said Digby.

Digby continued “…All the nursery people emphasised the strong demand for drought tolerant plants and Australian plants were seen as strong contributors as well as those from South Africa and the Mediterranean.”

Helix Australia will continue to work closely with their licensed American growers emphasising the strong dry condition performance of their range of Waxflower varieties.
