With plant pathologist Dr. Colleen Warfield

US (OH): Farwest Show spotlights plant disease diagnosis

At the 2016 Farwest Show, August 25-27, in Portland, OR, Dr. Colleen Warfield, Corporate Plant Pathologist, Ball Horticultural Company, will present a seminar, ‘Sharpen Your Diagnostic and Identification Skills Through a Review of Recent Disease Problems’. Dr. Warfield will teach attendees how to spot the onset of problems, for example, in line patterns or lesions on the margin of leaves. Her insights will hone identification and diagnostic skills leading to quicker ID of symptoms. Dr. Warfield’s tips will help attendees make quicker, and smarter, management decisions.

Her session takes place, Friday, August 26, at 10-11a, Room B117-119. Her talk will include Spanish translation.

Dr. Warfield oversees the Applied and Molecular Plant Pathology Services laboratory at Ball’s headquarters in West Chicago, Illinois. She and her team conduct applied pathology research, provide disease diagnostic services, and perform disease resistance screening in support of the breeding and production activities of the corporation. She’s been perfecting her expertise in the detection, diagnosis, and management of diseases of floriculture and nursery crops through her experiences as an assistant professor of plant pathology and ornamentals extension specialist at North Carolina State University, as a floriculture and nursery advisor with the University of California-DANR, and for the past seven years, as a plant pathologist with Ball.
