Since 2012, Austraflora have run an annual photography competition. Reaching out to over 37,000 Facebook Fans, contestants can enter photographs of Australian native flora and landscapes.
Each year that Austraflora have run the competition, the entries have increased in quantity and quality. This year there were over 2000 entries – a good mixture of both professional and novice photographers.
During July, the images were collected via the Austraflora Facebook page, then the team at Austraflora together with Canon meticulously sorted through the entries to determine 12 winners. These photos are to be printed in the 2017 Austraflora Calendar. The Austraflora Calendar is A4 sized and features a glossy cover and high-quality printed pages.
Once the 12 winners had been decided, their photos were displayed for the Facebook fans to vote for their favourite. This determined the major winner and runner-up. This year’s first place winner was Chris Tate and his iconic photo of Anigozanthos manglesii and Western Spinebill. This lucky recipient has won flights to Melbourne, 2 nights accommodation, and entry to the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show in 2017. He has also won a Canon G9X PowerShot Camera, a $100 PhotoPico voucher and an Austraflora Tote Bag. His winning photo has been featured on the 2017 Austraflora Calendar front cover. The runner-up was Sandy Winkle with her photo of Eucalyptus. She has won a Canon SX610 HS PowerShot Camera, a $100 PhotoPico voucher and an Austraflora Tote Bag.
The 10 finalists have won a $50 PhotoPico voucher and an Austraflora Tote Bag.
The 2017 Austraflora Calendar is now available for purchase from the Austraflora website with proceeds going to Multiple Sclerosis Limited. They will be shipped in October/November.
