Oriental Lily ‘Tabledance’ won the Best in Show title in the Outstanding Varieties Competition during the Society of American Florists’ 132nd Annual Convention in Maui, Hawaii on Sept. 22.
The entry was among the 184 different varieties from 20 growers from Florida, California, Oregon, Hawaii, Idaho, and Tennessee as well as Colombia and Ecuador. Judges scored each entry based on color and commercial appeal, stem and foliage, bloom form and size, and overall presentation. The judging panel, which included three retailers, three growers and three wholesalers, evaluated specific categories of flowers, and the highest scored entry of each won "Best in Class."
Flamingo Holland reaction
"Flamingo Holland is a proud Lily bulb supplier for Green Valley Floral and we could not be happier for them. Tabledance is an OT variety that is available year-round. There is bulb production in Chile and in Holland that will warrant excellent flower quality throughout the year. Newer OT varieties are currently introduced in the market place that will compliment the current Oriental varieties that are grown with vivid colors and improved genetics."
Mak Breeding reaction
Rogier Mak (Mak Breeding) commented, "At Mak Breeding we are very excited that Table Dance won the best of show at SAF convention 2016! We selected Tabledance 10 years ago and are a front runner of the newer generation OT Hybrids that have large flowers and vivid colors. OT Hybrids are known for faster crop time, large up-facing flowers, intense colors and compact foliage. Job well done, Green Valley. You make us feel proud!"
