CambridgeHOK are delighted to have been appointed by the Forestry Commission to design and build their new nursery facility at Lobslack Nursery near Delamere Forest in Cheshire.
This project will include the construction of a 10,800m2 modern glasshouse with a fully containerised benching system which will enable growing plants to be easily transported from inside the glasshouse to external hardening off areas.
The glasshouse will be environmentally computer controlled and will be fitted with thermal and shade horizontal roof screens and automatic ventilation. An automated boom irrigation system will be installed to help reduce water usage, providing tight control of the watering of the plants.
The project also comprises extensive civil engineering works which includes drainage, concrete walkways, site levelling and profiling and the formation of a new water storage lagoon.
Project Manager Kevin Parker said “We’re really excited to be involved with the Forestry Commissions new project at Delamere Forest and pleased they had the confidence in us to deliver one of their largest ever projects.”
Alan Harrison, Head of Plant and Seed Supply for Forestry Commission England said:
“The new glasshouse is a significant milestone in our ambitious investment plans to keep growing our business. We have a long history of supplying millions of high-quality trees, grown in Britain from carefully sourced seeds, to meet our foresters’ demands. The new facilities will ensure we can continue to manage the nation’s woods and forests for people, wildlife and timber.”
The project is expected to be complete by September 2017.
