Couple held over chrysanthemum theft near Shanghai Disneyland

A Chinese migrant couple have been placed in criminal detention after allegedly stealing yellow chrysanthemums worth about 300,000 yuan (44,800 USD) that were planted near Shanghai Disneyland.

Police officers said it was not the first time since September that people had been caught stealing the chrysanthemum plants, which city authorities have planted in flower beds along main roads in Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone, where the Disney theme park is located, the news portal Thepaper.cn reported.

More than 10 suspects have been detained in connection with the crime, the report said.

The flowers stolen by the couple at the time they were caught were estimated to weigh about 150kg, the report said.
