Photo Report open days at Urbinati

"Started from a small toolbox"

Growers, distributors, partners and propagators from various parts of the world visited the newly opened premises of Urbinati in Italy on November 8 & 9 during the open days in San Mauro Pascoli.

The Italian manufacturer of nursery equipment used the open days to combine the introduction of several new products with special seminars and speakers. A Keynote presentation was given by world famous Italian athlete Mauro Prosperi. The endurance runner who won a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles compared the goals of athlete with those from Urbinati, in terms of doing business without being limited in any way.

A total of 500 guests, including clients, producers and technicians, as well as their 80 employees and their families attended the open days of the company that was founded by Nino Urbinati. "When I was 18, I purchased my first tool box for 100 thousand Lira and made debts to do so. I started doing my first jobs with that - I went to the farmers and asked what they needed. That's how it all started", said Nino Urbinati.

Here is a small video interview with founder Nino Urbinati (in Italian):

New ANTHEA 1600 Seeder

One of the new products introduced at the Open Days was the Anthea 1600 seeder machine. The machine can sow up to 1600 containers an hour, exceeding the standard 1100/h. According to the company the conveyor is now more safer and the sowing cylinder can be changed according to the type of container.

"A filling system places peat in the cells, then a roller marks them, creating the space for the seed. The cylinder has a series of holes for the seeds and a guiding system makes sure there is only one seed per hole. An air-jet makes the seed fall into the mark. Additional cover and watering systems can also be installed," explained Urbinati's designer Lanfranco Ferri.

The machine was developed to meet specific needs. "A nursery gardener asked for a machine that could work quicker than the others available on the market. He didn't have to ask twice - in just a few months, we created the prototype which will be available on the market soon."

Urbinati also displayed a new potting machine that can fill up to 4000 pots/hr on average. Watch a video of the potting line:

Romina Urbinati is currently the vice-president of the company, which exports to more than 80 countries. "We are a great family, our motto is: nothing is impossible", she said.
