US (MI): More than 400 visitors at ASCFG conference

The Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers, Inc. (ASCFG) recently completed its 2016 National Conference and Trade Show in Grand Rapids, Michigan with an all‐time high attendance of more than 400 growers, floral professionals, and industry representatives.

A sold‐out Growers’ School provided the basics of cut flower production, such as efficient use of high tunnels, postharvest handling methods, marketing, and cut flower bulb production. Two more days of interactive sessions covered new varieties, added‐value products, perennials and woodies as cut flowers, IPM, business management, and much more.

The event wrapped up with a daylong tour of nearby Ottawa Glad Growers, Spring Meadow Nursery, and Walters Gardens.

Attendees came from 40 states and four Canadian provinces. They ranged from large California growers to boutique farmer‐florists. There was much praise for the quality of the speakers, and the generosity of all the growers who shared their growing and marketing experiences and information.

The ASCFG is a non‐profit trade association for commercial cut flower growers.
