Grow-Tech, a designer and manufacturer of grow plugs and microgreen media for the global Controlled Environment Agriculture sector, was recently named Business of the Year by The City of South Portland's Economic Development Committee. Grow-Tech has been a member of the South Portland, Maine business community since 2012, and they are very proud to receive this recognition from the City.
Grow-Tech has been designing and manufacturing growing media for decades. Several years ago, they saw the need for a new kind of product. With the help of a Small Business Innovation Grant from the Department of Agriculture, they created a product line called BioStrate for hydroponic growers. BioStrate is biobased and compostable in industrial facilities. They have since gone on to introduce two more product lines to the greenhouse industry. They are active members in Biobased Maine, a business-led trade association that is working to create good manufacturing jobs in Maine by converting renewable biomass to higher-value products.
At the awards ceremony, Grow-Tech CEO, Edwin Dijkshoorn said, “We couldn’t be more thrilled to have our efforts recognized by the South Portland community. This award is dedicated to all our Grow-Tech employees. They are the ones who truly deserve this honor.”
