US (IL): Princettia Queen Pink receives highest score at Millstadt's Poinsettia Trial

On November 14, Millstadt held its 9th annual poinsettia trials. Varieties from five different breeders were showcased to over 300 people who visited this Illinois - based greenhouse. They announced the five best performing varieties in the categories overall, red, white, pink and novelties.

But before presenting the results, Trial Manager Adam Heimos, thanked everyone who was involved in the trials. "It was a great event for the industry and a wonderful learning opportunity. Thank you Dr. Barrett and Dr. Cloyd for attending – you're both a wealth of knowledge and have taught me a thing or two during your presentations. Thank you sponsors, without your contributions we could not continue to grow our trial every year."

Overall winner: Princettia Queen Pink
From the 190 varieties, the overall best scoring variety is the Princettia Queen Pink, Followed by Ferrara, LUV U Pink Splash, Ice Punch and Majoris red.



Best in Red: Ferrara
As red is the traditional poinsettia color, the majority of the varieties presented at the trials are red. Of the 190 varieties showcased, 95 varieties were red. And, according to Millstadt, the best performing variety in this category is the Ferrara, followed by Majoris Red, Aria Red, and four varieties that shared the fourth position; Astro Red, Christmas Joy Red, Titan Red and Bouquet.



Best in White: Titan White and Princettia Pure White
Among the 18 white poinsettias, the Titan White and Princettia Pure White both achieved the highest score and are therefore sharing the first place. Then on the third place Whitestar was chosen followed by Schristmas Joy White and Christmas Beaty North Pole.



Best in Pink: Princettia Queen Pink

The Princettia Queen Pink is, next to the overall best variety, also the best pink variety. Then, from the 51 pink varieties, Millstadt gave LUV U Pink Splash the second highest score, followed by both, LUV U Soft Pink and LUV U Hot Pink. On the fifth place is the Christmas Lights.



Best Novelty: Ice Punch

Also 20 novelties were on display at the trials. And the novelty that received the highest score is the Ice Punch, followed by Sonorea White Glitter, Premium Ice Chrystal, Marblestar and Marbella.
