Schoolchildren win Golden Flower Bulb award

Four classes of schoolchildren - one class each in England, the Netherlands, Germany, and Canada - are the lucky winners of the 2017 Golden Flower Bulb Award. They won this award by participating in the Bulbs4Kids flower bulb project.

Bulbs4Kids
These four classes received the 2017 Golden Flower Bulb Award because they and 2,100 other classes of schoolchildren in England, the Netherlands, Germany and Canada signed up for the Bulbs4Kids flower bulb project. Bulbs4Kids is an international project meant to acquaint children in primary schools with flower bulbs by means of fun and hands-on activities.

Contest
To make planting flower bulbs even more exciting, the Bulbs4Kids project also included a photo and video competition. To become eligible for the 2017 Golden Flower Bulb Award, more than 1,000 of the participating classes submitted photos and videos. But there could be only one lucky winner in each of the four countries. The winning classes are:
  • England: Warninglid Primary School (the Kestrels Class), in Haywards Heath, West Sussex
  • The Netherlands: Rooms-Katholieke Basisschool Bernadette (group 6) in Naaldwijk
  • Germany: GGS Hobeuken (class 3a) in Sprockhövel
  • Canada: Green Timbers Elementary School (grade 6) in Surrey
Each of these winning classes received a 2017 Golden Flower Bulb Award trophy, a certificate for their classroom, a certificate for each child to take home, and a tulip umbrella.

Registering for the new season
Would you like to participate in Bulbs4Kids? Registration to participate in the new Bulbs4Kids season is now open, and flower bulb kits are still available for classes in England, Germany and Canada. Primary teachers can register their class to receive a free flower bulb kit at www.bulbs4kids.com. They will then get a confirmation of this and will receive their Bulbs4Kids flower bulb kit in the autumn when the planting season begins. You should be aware that participation involves certain conditions: the flower bulb kits are suitable for children ages 6-12 (grades 1 through 6), the flower bulb kits are distributed only to primary schools in certain countries, only one kit is given to each primary school, and the supply of flower bulb kits is limited (first come, first served).
