Wyevale Nurseries will be launching its 2018 promotional catalogue at the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) National Plant Show this month (June, 2017).
Wyevale Nurseries’ new catalogue will include 33 new plant promotions and will be available to collect at the plant show at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire on June 20 and 21.
Adam Dunnett, Sales & Marketing Director at Wyevale Nurseries in Hereford, said: “Last year’s catalogue resulted in customers reserving more than 150,000 promotional plants from us. Last year’s top five plants were Phormium ‘Chocomint’, Jacobinia ‘Firefly’, Daphne ‘Perfume Princess’, Salvia ‘April Night’ and Echinacea ‘Chunky Purple’. All of these top five selling promotional lines are repeated in this year’s catalogue.
“A new concept in this year’s catalogue is the ‘Taster Menu’. This is a small range of plants, which have successfully been through the first phase of our new plants trial system, but haven’t yet gone into full scale production.
“We are offering customers the chance to express an interest in these ‘super new’ lines and trial them in their plant areas before they are available in commercial numbers. This is a great opportunity for our customers to be ahead of the competition and help us with feedback on product innovation.
“We’re very proud of our 2018 promotional catalogue and the market leading range it will deliver to our customers. Within the catalogue there are 33 new plant promotions and we are particularly excited about five plants/ranges which are Phlox Twinkle Series, Penstemon Pentastic Series, Astilbe ‘Key West’, Hesperozygis ‘Midnight Mojito’ and Lavandula ‘The Princess’.
“All of these new plants will be on display in all their glory at our stand at the HTA National Plant Show.”
The Phlox Twinkle series are a new range of very compact and extremely well branched panicle garden Phlox that are also extremely mildew resistant. Twinkle creates a display all summer long and although the size of flowers is smaller the quantity of them makes up for it.
Adam added: “We’re interested to see what our customers think about The Penstemon Pentastic Series, which has so much to offer. They have large flowers and are heavily re-blooming. This new variety is very compact, extremely well branched, does not succumb to diseases and will offer a show of colour for the whole summer.”
Astilbe ‘Key West’ is another new plant promotion within the 2018 catalogue. This dwarf Astilbe is mound forming and compact, the dissected lobel foliage emerges bright green but will take on a deep red hue. This complements the triangular blooms of raspberry pink spikes. It will flower from mid-summer and is suitable for planting in both containers and borders.
Adam continued: “For lovers of the smell of mint we have a new plant just for you. Hesperozygis ‘Midnight Mojito’ is a purple-lilac coloured flower, which will bloom between March and April. It looks fantastic in both containers and borders. It’s heavily mint scented foliage makes it attractive to both gardeners and wildlife.
“We have also added a new lavender to the catalogue, which is Lavandula ‘The Princess’. It has intense pink, fragrant flowers, which emerge in early April and will continue to show all through summer. The aromatic evergreen foliage keeps a tight, compact mound shape making it ideal as a low hedge or large pot plant.”
Nine of this year’s promotions are exclusive to Wyevale Nurseries, including Geum ‘Can-can’, Cordyline ‘Electric Pink’ and Agapanthus ‘His Majesty’.
Adam said: “Our catalogue only tells part of the story, our 70-acre container nursery at Hereford plays a much bigger part and we would encourage customers to visit us and see the 1.5 million plants for themselves and tour our new plant development department.”
