UK: Tristramplants and Farplants host part of IPPS International Conference

Thursday 6th July saw an 80-strong group of international visitors from across the globe, tour Walberton and Binsted Nurseries and the Farplants Finishing Centre, as part of the 2017 IPPS International Conference.

The visitors were split into two groups and led on their tours by Tim Lawrance-Owen, Pass President 2016 of IPPS Europe, and Daria Pawlik, Operations & Despatch Manager at Binsted Nursery. The group toured a number of key areas at both nurseries, including:
  • Walberton’s Propagation unit, which produces around half of its almost 1 million production units
  • Walberton’s 0.9 acre glasshouse completed in 2015, and its adjoining rainwater attenuation tanks capable of holding 750,000 litres of water
  • Binsted’s new reservoir, which supplies the nursery with most of its irrigation needs, with flood pond and wild meadow, also completed in 2015
  • Farplants’ two acre Finishing Centre, where on a busy day, the Farplants cooperative of nurseries can send through up to 1800 trolleys full of plants to over 1000 Garden Centres around the country; that’s 70,000 trolleys per year across 3,500 stock lines
The group had already been touring since 2nd July, and will continue doing so until 18th July if participating in the full tour. By the time it has completed for this year, the International IPPS Tour would have taken in numerous horticultural institutions in Southern England, as well as in Belgium, Holland and Germany.
