NL: Positive Market Reactions to First Holland Dahlia Event

The announcement of the first Holland Dahlia Event has been warmly welcomed in the horticultural market. From Thursday to Saturday, August 24 – 26, numerous companies are welcoming fellow professionals from nearby and abroad. The event marks the renewed interest in one of the oldest commercially cultivated flowering tubers in our country.

Tuber exporters and growers and flower growers gathered together earlier this year to establish the Holland Dahlia Event. ‘There were more and more tests being done individually. At the same time we were seeing an increase in the trade of tubers and flowers because the popularity of dahlia is growing again,’ confirmed René Schrama, chairman of the new foundation.

The foundation is striving for a ‘display case function’ with the first Holland Dahlia Event and to put the Netherlands back on the map as a dahlia cultivating country. ‘That is the primary objective; the contribution to the collective promotion of dahlias is secondary. By joining forces, we can draw the attention of fellow professionals both locally and from abroad on a grander scale. The participants will also have more opportunity to show off their entire assortment. This includes not only the flowers and tubers, but also packaging material and the service that they provide.’

Confirmation from foreign business relations
The initial reactions from the market are unanimously positive. The participating companies have already received confirmations from their foreign business relations that they are coming to visit. One important advantage is that the cultivation and the trade are concentrated in a relatively small area. Thus, international guests can visit several companies each day.

Combination with Plantarium
Visitors to the Holland Dahlia Event can also attend the Plantarium in Boskoop, which is being held more or less concurrently (August 23 – 26). The organisation of the Holland Dahlia Event will have a stand at this tree trade fair to draw visitors’ attention to the Holland Dahlia Event. René Schrama explained, ‘Given that 20,000 visitors are expected to attend, it is a perfect opportunity to promote our purpose: Putting a spotlight on dahlias and pointing out the locations where the participating companies can be visited.’

Press tour
On Thursday August 24, the Holland Dahlia event is organising a special press tour through a number of participating companies. Interested people can join it at the Plantarium. The tour includes a stylish lunch surrounded by flowering dahlias and transport. Register with [email protected].
