Kenya Flower Council certification scheme undergoes re-assessment

One of the most effective lobby tools for the flower industry has been the compliance status of the industry in Kenya through the Kenya Flower Council Certification Scheme Quality System Accreditation to ISO / IEC 17065. In order to maintain its integrity, the Kenya Flower Council hosted Lead assessors from the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) from 24th to 26th July 2017. The Council was undergoing a re-assessment on accreditation to ISO/IEC 17065, a standard for General Requirements for Bodies Operating Product and Services Certification Systems.

The Kenya Flower Council was first Accredited as a Certification Body (CB) on October 16, 2008. The accreditation provides assurance and formal recognition of the competence of an organization and its staff in performing specific tasks.

The just ended re-assessment gives The Kenya Flower Council recognition to certify producers its standard the Flowers and Ornamentals Sustainability Standard Silver and Gold certificates, along with other standards within the scope of flowers and ornamentals.

The procedures for attaining and maintaining ISO 17065/ Guide 65 Accreditation involve five phases:
  1. Application for accreditation and evaluation of the normative quality system documents.
  2. Initial Evaluation and assessment of Certification Body.
  3. Accreditation to ISO / IEC 17065.
  4. Surveillance Assessment once per annum.
  5. Re-Assessment after every 3 year period.
