UK: David Austin introduces new varieties at Four Oaks

David Austin Roses will be exhibiting at the Four Oaks Trade Show, where they will showcase some of their varieties (stand B61). Read on to find out more about the breeder's new introductions.

Roald Dahl (Ausowlish) English Musk Hybrid
The peach coloured rose is a tribute to Roald’s first major literary success as a children’s author. Very free-flowering peach coloured blooms produced almost continuously. A remarkably free-flowering variety that will be a valuable addition to any garden. Beautiful orange-red buds open to cupped peach rosettes with a lovely Tea fragrance. It matures into a very attractive rounded bushy shrub with few thorns. A percentage of every ‘Roald Dahl’ rose sold will be donated to Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity, which helps make life better for seriously ill children in the UK.

Dame Judi Dench (Ausquaker) English Musk Hybrid
The blooms are a rich shade of apricot, paling towards the edges and have a lovely fresh tea fragrance. Striking red-tipped buds gradually open to reveal large informal rosettes, each with ruffled petals and a button eye. Very resistant to rain damage. The light-medium fragrance combines classic tea with a fresh note of cucumber and a hint of kiwi. A vigorous grower, it produces strong, arching stems which encourage many side shoots producing a generous second crop of blooms. 4 x 4ft.

Vanessa Bell (Auseasel) English Musk Hybrid
Large clusters of very free-flowering, soft yellow bloomsRounded pink-tinged buds open to reveal deep medium-sized cups held in large open clusters. Soft lemon-yellow, paling to white at the edges. The inner petals frame a rich yellow eye. Very free-flowering, blooms continuously throughout the summer. Medium strength fragrance, best described as green tea with aspects of lemon and at times honey. A bushy and upright shrub, which complements both formal and informal plantings, it makes a wonderful hedge. 4 x 2½ft.

James L. Austin (Auspike) English Old Rose Hybrid
Large blooms of deepest cerise pink with numerous petals forming perfect large rosettes, each with a central button eye. Flowers prolifically from early summer until first frosts. Blooms are not affected by bad weather. The medium strength fragrance resembles a mixture of dark fruits. Bushy upright habit, equally at home in a formal rose border, large pot, or grown as a fragrant hedge. 3½ x 2ft.
