The international plant fair Plantarium starts on Wednesday 23 August in Hazerwoudsdorp. Growers will present their newest and most special plants to garden centres and wholesalers from across the world. Den Hollander presented various new plants at Plantarium including the brand new Amethyst Red, a strong garden hortensia with a blooming period of six months.
According to the breeder the novelty will be a garden favourite. During the blooming period the flower changes colour three times: from bright red in May to deep green in October. At the moment the plant has red-green flowers. Red hortensias are very popular in the Netherlands and Germany. Around 33 million hortensias are grown annually in the Netherlands. The fair was open to the public on Saturday August 26 and various 'plants of the future' were for sale. The red garden hortensia Amethyst Red will be available from spring 2019 in Dutch and German garden centres.
