3.5 hectare greenhouse extension project at Wouters Nursery

Dutch pot and bedding plant grower expands greenhouse

Prins Group recently supplied a nice greenhouse project to Wouters Nursery. This 3.5 hectare greenhouse extension project took place in the Noordoostpolder, the Netherlands. This family company, founded in 1956, is still run by the Wouters family.

Wouters Nursery was started in Brabant, where open ground vegetables were grown. 'Grandpa' Wouter moved the greenhouse and was one of the first to start a horticulture business in the Noordoostpolder. At the end of the 70's the switch was made to cut chrysanthemums. In the 80's this was changed to pot and perk plants, combined with strawberry and chicory. Slowly, Wouters Nursery changed into a pot and perk plant company. Think violets, perk goods, bulb chrysanthemums and Christmas Stars.

Wouters Nursery has their own product line 'Festival Colours'. This includes various mix combinations that are available in many different pot sizes. This product line was developed to unburden the consumer and allowed direct enjoyment. "In our testing garden that various mix combinations are developed and tested under consumer conditions. We know for sure that we aren't just supplying a good final product, but can also guarantee a good garden performance," according to Frido. Within the company sustainable business is held in high regard and biomass heating is used in the cultivation.

According to Frido and Ad the expansion to 39.5 hectares of greenhouse went well. "From the starting phase (before the purchase took place) the guidance was already good. We visited other customers together with Prins Group in which the greenhouse projects use diffused glass. Through positive and enthusiastic stories from Prins Group and their customers, we were able to make our decision and opted for diffused glass. We haven't used this type of glass before and it makes this extension extra special. The collaboration with the greenhouse building team in the construction phase was also very good. Almost the entire team is Dutch, which meant the communication was easy. The greenhouse project was also finalised in one go without a delay, which is a huge plus."

With the realisation of this greenhouse project, Wouters Nursery hopes to be able to optimise their products even more. "We are very satisfied with the result and the first collaboration with Prins Group and will certainly recommend Prins Group to other growers," according to Frido and Ad.
