'I am Different'

Roses Forever introduces new line of mini pot roses

Selling high volumes of just one product is not always that easy. Therefore, growers often choose to broaden their assortment with other lines of the same plant. However, different lines often have other needs and require different cultivation techniques. This also counts for mini pot roses.

Therefore, Danish rose breeder Rosa Eskelund of Roses Forever turned this challenge into a goal; offering growers several lines that can grow in the same pot size and way. Over the last years, she put two lines - the Roses Forever line (colourful line) and the Infinity line (characterized with its big and filled flowers) - on the market and is now ready to introduce their third line; the 'I am Different' line, and will be ready to deliver upstart cuttings for standard 10.5 pot sizes from early spring 2018.

The six varieties in the 'I am Different' line.

'I am Different'
As the name of the line indicates, the varieties in this line are characterized by the fact that their appearance is different, not only when comparing it to the mini roses in the other two existing lines of Roses Forever, but also within the line itself. "The flower-shape, the colors, everything is different", says Eskelund.

but not that different
Even though the roses in this new line look different, they are not that different for the grower as they have the same growing habits as the roses in the other two lines. "After two and a half years of testing and growing many varieties, six varieties have been chosen that do not only look different and pretty, but have the same growing habits as our roses in the Infinity and Roses Forever line", says Eskelund.

Growing several lines
For a grower, adding a new line of mini pot roses to the existing range is not always that easy as it sounds as different lines often need different cultivation techniques. The lines of Eskelund, however, can all be grown together. “We have more growers worldwide who choose 2 of our lines in 10.5 cm pots, as 100,000 pots per week can be a lot to sell of the same product. Therefore, it is a good idea that for example half of the production are another line, with exactly the same way of growing”.
