Expo Agroalimentaria receives more interest from ornamental industry

The Mexican ornamental sector is growing and this trend was visible at the Expo AgroAlimentaria Guanajuato that was held in the town of Irapuato, Mexico. This exhibition that used to be a real fresh produce show is receiving more and more interest from the ornamental industry. Next to orchid and anthurium breeder Anthura, who is exhibiting at the show for several years, orchid breeder Sion and the recently established trade company Ornamental Growers Group were exhibiting at the show too.

Our colleagues of HortiDaily.com were at the exhibition to make a full photo report of the show.

Phalaenopsis
The majority of the Mexican flower growers are based in the Southern part of the country. The phalaenopsisis is a popular plant to grow and the annual production of this plant is expected to increase sharply in the coming years. It was in 2016 1.2 million and is expected to reach 4 million in 2020.

Quality
So, the competition is getting stronger and the awareness of quality is therefore starting to rise. More growers seem to be willing to invest to grow a better product. And a higher quality product seems to be in good demand. When taking a walk through the city center of Guanajuato, for example, more luxurious flower shops are popping up.
