Potential groundbreaking research on the garden rose genome

A not so easy to read, but by different media referred to as groundbreaking research report on identifying natural traits for scent, color, pest resistance and durability in garden roses has been published. Researchers claim to have sequenced the genome by means of new gene editing technologies, thereby uncovering new, previously unknown genes responsible for the aforementioned traits.

With this knowledge future breeding processes could be accelerated, the research team promises.

The paper was recently published in Nature Genetics and can be accessed for free.
